Pots, kettles and the colour black

The blogging crew in the 'Freedom Institute' seem to have decided on jihad against the Irish Indymedia. While agreeing that the Indymedia folks are not above criticism, it's disconcerting to see the somewhat eccentric FI lecturing others on this topic.

To quote one of the latest FI posts by John McGuirk:

"Who's funding the Iraqi insurgency??
Obviously, they have many sources of funding, but you'll never believe their new one:

It is, in fact, the European far-left. The kind of people who can largely be found at indymedia. (Though, obviously, most Indymedia users are not quite that nutty)

Let me repeat that.

Western European leftist groups are raising money for the insurgency in Iraq"

The website in question was (as can be guessed) haunted by a pack of nobody losers no-one has ever heard of, excepting one curious exchange of some interest to Irish readers. (While the website has now disappeared, the Wayback Machine still remembers)

As an experiment in the kind of broad-strokes tarring evidently so beloved of the Freedom Institute, I took a look at the page linked to for this "Hat tip". The following are straight quotes from Vodkapundit's community.

I report, you decide.

"If they are aiding our enemies, those who are killing our soldiers, then they are fair targets for assassination.

"I would hate to see their conference in October hit with an explosion of some sort

"I'm not one for slipperly slopes, but listening to the rhetoric of leftists out here in San Francisco its hard to ignore. Eventually one of these idiots is going to start taking it seriously enough to become the Left's Timothy McVeigh. We cannot hope that they'll remain lazy for too long.

"overlord their asses all over again. now that the chunnel's poen, i'm sure that the home army and other territorial forces can occupy paris and brussels in a jiff thanks to the eurostar. leaving from waterloo station no less!

its seriously time to start dealing with the fifth columnists. moveon, dean, bartcop, kos, atrios, etc etc etc. them, the french, the commies, the saudies, alf & elf, everyone.

Leftists have been growing desperate, since their fall from power in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. Only the hellholes of North Korea and Cuba are still unequicovacably controlled by the left. They miss the power. They'll do anything to get it back.
Belmont Club"

"Leftists who control most american universities are also contributing to these causes. The same kind of tenured professor who says "let a million Mogadishus bloom!" and "anyone who bombs the Pentagon gets my vote!" are not going to pass up the opportunity to contribute to vile murderers.

I recommend everyone here watch the film Brainwashing 101 at academicbias.com

""...aging, old school fascists..."

Anyone else think "Democrat Party" when they read that?

"I think there are two things we could do. First, we could send some very rough people to kick ass and take names at that group's offices and/or at one of its gatherings.

In the alternative, we could see if law enforcement could monitor their dealings, then seize the funds raised. The Iraqi militants are terrorists and providing financial support for terrorists is illegal in most of the western world.

Frankly, I just want these fools killed. Let's raid the group's offices, get their mailing list and finance reports, find out who their contributors and supporters are, and visit some pain on them.

"I would suggest that anyone surprised by this development should make a point of reading the far-left pubs like the Nation. This exact issue came up right about the time of the Iraqi invasion. Don't remember if the author was Katha Pollitt or the other feminist leftist, but the gist of the article was this: "we aren't afraid of American defeat in Iraq, but of American victory, because if the Americans win they establish another bastion of capitalism."

Well, that's what is happening, and since these folks never accepted the fact that they LOST the cold war AND the hearts and minds of most of the world's population, they are hanging with ANYONE that they think can help them regain their lost power. "The enemy of my enemy is my friend," so what's the surprise? If you can stomach reading the other side's material (I stopped in 2004 but think I will start again) you can get a pretty good idea of what's making them tick.

As to what should be done: the Constitution is pretty clear about what Treason is, and this sure constitutes giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Other posters have made this point better than I.
